SOHAM VILLAGE COLLEGE
Soham Village College is a mixed Comprehensive Grant-Maintained School for pupils aged 11-16 near Ely in Cambridgeshire. There are 1350 pupils on roll for September 2007 . Technology College status was achieved in 1994 through a successful national bid which enables us to offer a greatly enhanced Information Technology provision throughout the curriculum. The College was one of the first schools in the country to be allowed two specialisms and is now a specialist Technology and Languages College. Such excellent material provision in new and refurbished buildings is matched by the extensive and beautiful grounds in which the College stands. A reputation has been gained by the college for high academic results, for excelling in the fields of Sport and the Arts, and for being a caring organisation. Our fundamental aim is simple: to provide for pupils an education that is second to none. We foster a climate within which every boy and girl can develop his or her talents to the fullest. At the same time, pupils become aware of the importance of community generally, where mutual respect between pupils and staff is shown, where initiative and originality can flourish, and where young people develop as individuals. The College has been awarded the Artsmark - Bronze Award, International School Award, School Achievement Award, Basic Skills Quality Mark, SportsMark, Becta ICT Mark and the Investors in People Award. These are external measures of the quality of our Sports, Expressive Arts Curriculum and our teaching of Literacy, Numeracy and ICT as well as the training and development of our staff. Soham Village College has been described as a very good school with outstanding leadership by inspectors from Ofsted – the Office for Standards in Education. 'This is a good school with
some outstanding features. Students reach good standards and make good progress
in their academic work because they are taught well, have good attitudes to
learning and behave well.'
Soham Village College also provides educational opportunities for Adults with its Community Education programme.
The College also has its own Business Training Centre which can give businesses up to date training in various areas ranging from improving managerial skills to ICT training for employees. The ICT Suite can also be hired for conferences.
