ROSS PEER'S SPORTS CENTREThe Ross
Peer's Sports Centre, College Close, Soham Cambridgeshire, CB7 5HP Introduction The idea for a sports centre was first initiated in 1982 by a group of people, including the then Parish Councillor Ross Peers, who felt Soham needed such a facility. Soham & District Sports Association was formed in 1984. The Centre is situated on the Village College site and provides quality sports and leisure facilities for the residents of Soham and surrounding villages. It has between 1,000 and 1,500 members each year and was originally called the Soham Sports Centre run by the Soham & District Sports Association (SDSA). It was renamed when Mr Peers died in 1993. In 1994 international javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread opened an extension which included a bowls hall and Astro-turf pitch. The centre seeks to create an environment where people of all ages and sporting abilities, both of able body and those with disabilities can enjoy their leisure time.
