If your business would be willing to help, please telephone: 01353 624493 or alternatively E-Mail: with your company details and the amount you would like to sponsor.

To nominate an unsung hero who you think deserves to be 'Soham Townsperson of the Year 2008' please telephone 01353 624493 or E-Mail: your name, postal address, telephone number and/or e-mail address and the person you would like to nominate. The winner will be chosen by BBC Radio Cambridgeshire Presenter Mr Richard Spendlove and presented with a trophy by him on Carnival Day.

Soham Carnival 1958 (3 Minute Clip) |
The Soham Benevolent Association was formed in 1954 after the success of the first ever Soham Carnival & Heavy Horse Show which was held in 1953 to celebrate the Queen's coronation. The long standing aim of the Association has been to provide a great day out for all the family by organising the annual event whilst also raising funds for local charities. The Carnival was originally held on Whit Bank Holiday Monday which has now been transformed into Spring Bank Holiday Monday, the last Monday in May each year. It has the traditional atmosphere of a country show and the venue, the Recreation Ground, is a particularly pleasant setting.
Over the years since 1953 the entertainment has varied considerably and many thousands of pounds have been donated to a wide range of deserving local causes to benefit the whole community. These include Papworth, Addenbrookes and Newmarket Hospitals, East Anglian Children's Hospices, Arthur Rank Hospice, Soham Staploe Medical Centre, Magpas, Soham Swimming Pool, Ross Peer's Sports Centre, St. Andrew's Primary School, The Weatheralls Primary School, Soham Village College, St. John Ambulance Soham Combined Division, Soham Scouts & Guides, Soham Holiday Playscheme, Soham Association of Commerce & Trade Christmas Light Fund, Chernobyl Children Lifeline East Cambridgeshire Link, Soham Museum Project, Soham On-Line Community Website and many, many more. The SBA provided the money to pay for the children’s play equipment on the Recreation Ground as well as the Town signs located at Downfields and Townsend, which were made by staff and pupils from Soham Village College . Golden Jubilee Mugs were given to pupils who attended all the Soham Schools in 2002 and a syringe driver was presented to Nurses from Soham, Fordham and Isleham in memory of Jack and Margaret Ennion, Jack having been a founder member and President for many years.
