Fireworks Display 2004 Carnival Cash Benefits Many People The success of the 51st Soham Carnival & Heavy Horse Show 2004 has made local charity and youth organisations very happy indeed. The event raised a record-breaking £7,000 and cheques were presented to local organisations by the carnival organisers, the Soham Benevolent Association, at a special presentation evening held at The Ross Peer's Sports Centre, Sand Street on Tuesday 7th September 2004. The association presented the MacMillan Nurses with a cheque for £2,500 and the Arthur Rank Hospice for £2,500. Other recipients were Ross Peers Sports Centre for the purchase of new Soft Play Equipment, Soham & District St. John Ambulance Brigade, Soham Fenlander Majorette Troupe, Soham Holiday Playscheme, Soham Association of Commerce & Trade Christmas Light Fund, Soham Scouts, Soham Guides and the Chernobyl Children's Life Line - East Cambridgeshire Link. Kim Botting, chairman of the Soham Benevolent Association, said: ‘The Carnival was one of the best attended for many years with 11 floats taking part in the parade. It proved to be a fun filled day for the whole community of Soham from the very young to the very old. We are very pleased with the amount of money raised and the worthwhile local causes that have benefited from it. We would really like to thank our sponsors and all who helped in any way to make the day such a success. |
