Carnival Cash Benefits Many People The success of the 52nd Soham Carnival & Heavy Horse Show 2005 has made local charity and youth organisations very happy indeed. The event raised almost £5,000 and cheques were presented to local organisations by the carnival organisers, the Soham Benevolent Association, at a special presentation held at Soham Fire Station on Wednesday 14th September 2005. The association presented East Anglian Air Ambulance with a cheque for £1,800 and MAGPAS for £1,800. Other recipients were Soham & District St. John Ambulance Brigade, Soham Fenlander Majorette Troupe, Soham Holiday Playscheme, Soham Association of Commerce & Trade Christmas Light Fund, Soham Scouts, Soham Guides, Soham Museum Project, Soham On-Line and the Chernobyl Children's Life Line - East Cambridgeshire Link. Kim Botting, Chairman of Soham Benevolent Association, said: "The Carnival nearly turned into a washout with heavy rain and a mini tornado during the morning but the sun eventually came out along with lots of people. A fine selection of 11 floats took part in the parade. It proved to be a fun filled day for the whole community of Soham from the very young to the very old. We are very pleased with the amount of money raised and the worthwhile local causes that have benefited from it. We would really like to thank our sponsors and all who helped in any way to make the day such a success." |
