The 'Fox in the Wood' public house at Townsend. One of the many lost alehouses of Soham, although the name is commemorated in the Foxwood housing development. The landlord in the early years of this century, Mr Robert Bridgeman, is seen here with his family. Tragedy struck them when the young son, jumping a dyke, pierced his foot on a reed and subsequently died of lockjaw. Mr Cubit Smith, lived in the left hand part of the property where his cart may just be seen.
