A Brief History
It all began in 1987 with a few girls in red
leotards twirling their batons and performing at local fetes. One of those first
little girls went on to become the Troupes Drum Major leading them through thick
and thin, hot and cold, dry and sometimes very, very wet.
They have over the years become a
very well known troupe performing all over the county at Fun Days, Carnivals,
Day Centres, Hospitals, Fetes, Schools, Churches in fact anywhere. Always
putting on their best performance and showing their audiences how much they love
to please. For this the troupe receives donations to help with expenses.
The Troupe have competed in the Area
Region Championships and since 1995 have won first, second and thirds in Novice
Baton both Junior and Senior and Pom Poms. But their greatest achievement to
date is when they went to surprise our Drum Major a contestant on The Generation
Game, appearing on TV with Mr. Blobby. The cost to the members being just
£2.50 and other than their own baton nothing else to pay. For this they get
trained by experienced people in the art of batoning, pom poms and when ready
mace. They are provided with all their uniforms for marching, displaying and now
performing great shows like "Grease". During the year they are also taken
on trips to fun fairs, the sea side, ice skating, barbeques, and have their own
year end disco, at which club trophies are presented for their dedication,
attendance and improvement. The girls have their own
club competition to show off their creative skills and very many of these dances
are performed the following year. The talent is certainly in Soham and we hope
you will catch one of their many performances in the year "2006/2007".
